Just My Rant

I’m sure by now you have heard the news about Elizabeth Edwards breast cancer reappearing, something that no one ever wants to hear. But what struck me (and it seems a lot of others) is the grace, courage and dignity these two people showed in their announcement and the honest to god love they have for each other and last but not least the strength they showed today. In a world of politicians that will say or do anything to dramatize a moment or grab a headline this couple showed a lot of people today the meaning of the word loyalty and integrity. If I was an Edwards supported before now I’m an Edwards FANATIC!

Now you might say, “What does this have to do with him being a good president?” Well let me explain why I first became an Edwards supporter back in 2004. John Edwards is not your typical politician. First of all he knows what it means to have to struggle to make ends meet. He comes from a family of modest means and worked his butt off to get to where he is today. Honestly John Edwards IS the American dream in it’s fullest meaning. He worked two jobs to put HIMSELF (no rich Mommy and Daddy to help) through college and graduated with honors. He then worked his way through Law School in the same manner.

Now this may not seem like a big deal to most people but let’s think about most of the politicians we have seen in the last few years. Rich kids backed by mommy and daddy, the heir apparent to their family fortune. Because of this mentality most of the leaders we have seen for quite some time have been completely disconnected from the real American people. Most of them don’t have the slightest clue what a hard day’s work is and they never will! John on the other hand knows. He watched his family struggle to make ends meet. He himself earned every thing he has today by the ’sweat of his brow’ and dammit that’s EXACTLY what this country needs today, someone that know 90% of Americans are killing themselves to pay their bills and make a better life for children!

In John’s tenure as a US Senator he was always at the forefront of the fight to help the ‘little guy’. He championed issues like better health care, schools, the environment and many other issues that effect the hard working people of this country! He didn’t spend his time making his ‘rich buddies’ richer like some leaders we know all too well. He fought for YOU and I!

When it came time to make his first run for President he did it with dignity and honor just the way he has done most everything in his life. Even bowing out when he thought it was the best thing for his party. Now personally I thought that was the one mistake he made. In my opinion the 2004 ticket should have been reversed but alas it was not be so.

But what strikes me about John and Elizabeth is the honest to god love they have for each other and for their fellow man. There is no pompous attitude we see all too often, there is only a sincere desire to help others in any way they can. Heck after the election was stolen by GW John went to work for the center on Poverty! He didn’t take some ‘fatcat’ job at some blood thirsty law firm or corporation, he went out to try and help the forgotten poor of this nation!

Next is the fact that these two have endured hardships that would have destroyed 90% of the couples out there today. The loss of their son in a car accident, Elizabeth’s breast cancer, the loss of the election in a very ugly fashion. All the while these two amazing people stuck together and worked through the problems as a couple. That means a lot to me personally because I honestly believe 75% of the problems in America today stem from the fact that marriage has become a joke! These two people are a shining beacon of what was once great about America and what can be great about America!

So I offer my hopes and dreams to John and Elizabeth in this new fight but I know they will win this fight as they have one all the fights before, together as a solid team. I also hope they will win the ultimate prize in 2008 and can begin to show the American people and the world what good honest hard working Americans are really like. It’s time to stop acting like spoiled rich brats in the eyes of the world and by God I think John & Elizabeth are just the people to do it!
