In another blow towards the working class this time targeting our most vulnerable citizens, senior citizens, the Bush administration has told the State of Wisconsin they must shut down their highly successful SeniorCare program. This plan has been running since 2002 but this week the US Government has rejected the state’s request to extend the program effectively costing you and I billions more each year in inflated payments to drug companies and costing those that can least afford it, our senior citizens, more money in copays.

Once again OUR government has sided with big business and the Washington lobbyists that have made negotiating drug prices one step above a crime. Because of their greed and the greenbacks the lobbyists have stuffed into their ‘war chests’ we will now see a highly successful medical plan flushed down the toilet. Who wins here? Only the drug companies and the greedy bastards in Washington that most certainly are getting kickbacks, high paying positions and campaign money. Who loses? Anyone that pays taxes but at the very heart of it all are those on fixed incomes, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents!

According to the Wisconsin State Journal Drugs that previously cost their organization $15 a month will now cost $1400 a month. Now that should make you scream with rage but there is even more that will absolutely make you sick to your stomach. According to reports forcing these people onto the criminal ‘Medicare Plan D’ plan seniors will only have a limited amount of coverage for their medicine after which they will be required to pay for their own medicines for several months. Only after paying these outrageous amounts for their drugs will Medicare begin to cover the expenses again. One such example is given in the article about a 70 year old retired switchboard operator and I quote:

A retired switchboard operator, Finch said one of her rheumatoid arthritis drugs costs $1,400 a month. She said under Medicare Part D, the government would pay for the first $2,500, then she would have to pay the next $3,000 before the plan would cover additional costs. That’s money she said she can’t afford. With SeniorCare, she gets the same drug for about $15 per month, she said.

So we have a retired woman that has paid $180 a year for her medicine on the existing plan that will now be forced to pay approximately $3000 for nothing more than a few months supply of her medicine! How in god’s name can ANY government official look these people in the face and tell them they are working to help them!

In Gov. Jim Doyle’s own words: “This has become a pattern with President Bush, Stubborn and unwilling to admit a mistake. Relying on ideology while ignoring obvious facts. And putting rich, powerful interests ahead of regular people.”

But of course the Republicans fired back saying the Governor and the Democrats were politicizing the issue. Will you give me a freaking break. How god damned out of touch has the Republican party become! They are willing to kick OUR senior citizens in the teeth and make them choose between eating and getting their medicine! How soon will it be before the stories start coming out about seniors having to eat dog food because they spent all their money on medicine to keep them alive!

And just in case you think this an isolated incident every other state run medical plan for seniors has already been shut down by these thieving bastards so more than likely someone you know and love will be effected in the very same way. Come to think of it unless you are filthy rich this will effect each and every one of you eventually!

If you are a Republican all I can say is “you ought to be ashamed of yourself!” This is a god damned disgrace that every American should be screaming bloody murder about, well every American that works for a living! This is a slap in the face at basic humanity, a kick in the groin to all these people who worked their whole lives under the impression they would be protected from thievery in their elder years and folks that’s EXACTLY what this is. This is Robin Hood in reverse, steal from the poor and give to the rich! We have told ‘the greatest generation’ we simply don’t give a shit and that my friends is wrong on so many levels it’s not funny!

If you have any dignity, any compassion for your fellow man, if you have one shred of decency you need to get off your butts RIGHT NOW and call, email or write your Senators and Representatives and tell this it is time to stop this SHIT NOW!
