Screw You Google!
May 4th, 2007There was a day when I was the champion of Google. When I taught IT I told my students to use Google (this is back when half of them didn’t know what Google was) but you know what? They have become a monster 10 times worse than Microsoft EVER was. Another great idea and great company gone to hell in a handbag all for love of money and thinking THEY know all the answers!
Now there are several examples this company has gone so far off base it’s not funny. They span both searchers and companies trying to get rankings. Let’s look at each of them:
1. Google has bowed down to BIG corporate payoffs from companies like ebay. Ever searched for something like ‘crap’? Don’t you just love those listings that say ‘looking for crap? Find it on eBay’. There is NO REASON for these rankings, they are an obvious bullshit listing paid for by eBay.
2. The first 3 pages of just about ANY search are loaded with blatant spam listings, sometimes listed 4 and 5 times within the top 30 rankings. Don’t believe me? Try searching for about any key phrase you can think of. When you get the results start clicking on the links that are returned. How many of them are ‘leech pages’ attached to some domain that has nothing to do with the topic. For instance, you will find spammy, garbage pages attached to .edu domains. These are school domains that some spammer has paid a student to attach a page or two about their topic so you get berkley.edu/buy_life_insurance_from_me_today.html. If you take the time to go even deeper it gets worse, sometimes with 3 or 4 of these within 10 listings! Google keeps telling site owners they need great, relevant content yet these listings are literally nothing more than a blatant attempt at gaining traffic off of legitimate sites! They are so easy to spot you really have to wonder why Google’s ’superior technology’ can’t spot them in a second.
3. There have been a multitude of reports of website owners having their entire Google Adsense accounts seized and liquidated by Google due to ‘fraudulent click activity’. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars are being stolen by Google without any proof of fraud or misconduct … all with a simple email from Google that says ‘Your account has been closed due to suspicious click activity’ … nothing more and god forbid you try and get an answer from them via email or phone!
Now again, if Google’s technology is good enough to detect a possible fraudulent link click why can’t they just not credit the site owner for those clicks? No, they seize the whole account, all the money in it and refuse to even show the evidence of fraud. Literally it’s easy money for Google! The only hope of getting paid for a site owner is to hire a lawyer that has the guts to go up against Google’s army of lawyers.
4. Google changes the rules of getting decent rankings on any ‘whim’ they feel at a given moment. Take for example a site I happen to be involved with. 100% original, well written content. This site has received RAVE reviews from readers for over 15 months. Everything, and i do mean EVERYTHING is ‘above board’ and presented in a fashion that is 100% ‘by the book’, that is the book according to good rankings from Google. The domain is over 2 years old and for the 1st 13 months of the sites existence the site ranked in the top 10 for every key phrase you can imagine. So what happens? Google changes their algorithm and the site not only drops off the face of the earth (results wise) Google drops 99% of it into what they call the ’supplemental results’ .. literally the Google version of hell for a website! Within a matter of a day the site goes from tons of traffic to ‘the chirping of crickets’ .. and what has replaced this site’s rankings? You guessed it .. more spam sites!
Google keeps announcing how they are refining their indexing process and how their searches are now ‘more intuitive’ but to anyone that knows the business the real truth shines through like the sun. Their ‘new processes’ are leaning closer and closer to controlling every aspect of the web and forcing people into paying them to be able to operate a business on line!
So what we have here is another great idea gone to hell when the money got big. I really hope those two assholes that started Google are happy … they are filthy rich and their ‘dream’ has been bastardized by the corporate slime balls … good Job assholes!
Everyone knows I freaking HATE Microsoft but you know what? I hope this deal between MS and Yahoo goes through and they kick the living shit out of Google! It’s time Google started thinking about what they USED to stand for!
