Just My Rant

Unless you have been living under a rock the last week you have seen the ’shocker’ deal that was cooked up over the weekend to GIVE Bear Sterns to JP Morgan for a song. Just to add insult to injury the damned FED helped JP steal this company right out from under the stockholders noses. I’m sorry but when a company gets sold ‘over the weekend’ in a closed door secret meeting you just have to ask what the HELL is going on! Has the Bernanke and the FED thrown all caution out the window and announced they have joined the corporate raiders using OUR money? I’m sorry but if this isn’t a WTF moment I don’t know what is.

So this sweetheart deal gets hammered out without so much as an afterthought about the stockholders and the employees (all of their bonuses were paid in stock options by the way) for a measly $2 a share. The damn stock closed Friday afternoon at $30 a share and somehow over the weekend it is worth less than 10% of that … give me a freaking break, this deal is rotten to the core and anyone with half a brain knows it! Hell the Sterns buildng in NYC is worth $8 a share so how in gods name can ANYONE sit with a straight face and value it at $2. I bet the cigars and champagne were flowing along with the back slaps that night, the old boy club had just screwed the world again!

As you all know I have been shouting for years about the greed of Corporations and their ability to manipulate both society and government. Today I came across an article written in 2005 by Manuel Valenzuela. Mr Valenzuela sums up just about anything I could possibly say and then some in this article titled “America’s Tomorrow - Burden on Those Yet to Come“. It’s quite a long article but something I think any good American should read. You will feel your stomach churn as you read this article because it smacks you in the face with truths we all know yet mostly ignore. My favorite passage is:

The corporation has become the demon of the modern age, becoming, to 21st century humanity, what totalitarian regimes were to the 20th, a threat allowed to grow and prosper, slowly gaining power and influence, becoming wealthier than entire nations, allowed to control and manipulate the population, swallowing whole the branches of government, becoming overlord of Earth, master of the masses. It is the corporation, allowed to develop through debauched capitalism and the power of the Establishment, through our indifference and failure to act, which has accelerated the dastardly stage of degenerate capitalism we are immersed in today. It is the corporation, and the people that control it, that has become the greatest threat to the continued survival of humankind.

There was a day when I was the champion of Google. When I taught IT I told my students to use Google (this is back when half of them didn’t know what Google was) but you know what? They have become a monster 10 times worse than Microsoft EVER was. Another great idea and great company gone to hell in a handbag all for love of money and thinking THEY know all the answers!

In another blow towards the working class this time targeting our most vulnerable citizens, senior citizens, the Bush administration has told the State of Wisconsin they must shut down their highly successful SeniorCare program. This plan has been running since 2002 but this week the US Government has rejected the state’s request to extend the program effectively costing you and I billions more each year in inflated payments to drug companies and costing those that can least afford it, our senior citizens, more money in copays.

Once again OUR government has sided with big business and the Washington lobbyists that have made negotiating drug prices one step above a crime. Because of their greed and the greenbacks the lobbyists have stuffed into their ‘war chests’ we will now see a highly successful medical plan flushed down the toilet. Who wins here? Only the drug companies and the greedy bastards in Washington that most certainly are getting kickbacks, high paying positions and campaign money. Who loses? Anyone that pays taxes but at the very heart of it all are those on fixed incomes, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents!

Exactly how much money do these massive corporations need before they are happy? Is there limit, because I sure has hell don’t see it and things are REALLY starting to get stupid! This is the first of what I’m sure will be many many rants about the corporate machine, their greed and their honest to god lack of concern for their customers, employees or any other human being (hell any being for that fact) that might be affected by what they do. I’ve got some real favorites here & I welcome suggestions from anyone out there to expose these blood sucking vampires to the public.
