Are You Mad Enough Yet?
September 21st, 2005Well I’ve kept my big mouth shut for quite some time now, waiting and watching, expecting things to get better. I had come to the conclusion that no matter how bad our administration had become it would only last for 4 years and hopefully we would get a new administration that could fix the damage. Hell I even said to a friend “How much damage can they do in 4 years?” … my god if I only knew!
So here we are at the end of 2005, gas prices are strangling us, the war drags on and on, ineptitude in our administration seems more common than not and it’s getting worse by the day! Hurricane Katrina has ripped New Orleans apart both physically and mentally. Visions of Americans begging for help in the street go unanswered for days on end. Women’s choice may be coming extinct with the addition of two new judges to the supreme court. So how much damage CAN they do? Well they have managed this much (war aside) in less than one year of the second term.. multiply that times the three remaining year and you have to wonder how bad it could actually get. My question is this: how long is it going to take the American people to get freaking MAD! How long can they be screwed from behind before they say NO MORE? Have the bulk of them turned into mindless zombies who can’t even see everything American was is being taken away one piece at a time!
So let me add some fuel to this fire, something I just found out today on the evening news. They were talking about disasters and each city and state’s ability to react properly (god knows they cant count on the federal government for shit). Anyway, they mentioned a series of tests performed by FEMA in late 2000 and a report that was given to THIS administration in early 2001. Three different disaster scenarios were tested. (this is actually kind of scary):
- A terrorist attack on NYC
- A massive hurricane hitting New Orleans
- A massive earthquake hitting San Francisco
Now the prophetic nature of these tests is scary enough but that’s not the point here. The report given to the Bush administration was so close to the actual devastation New Orleans suffered you would swear it was written after Katrina. So what did this administration do in response to the report? Downsized FEMA and then after 911 they put it under the control of our “wonderful” Homeland security department. Next they cut the funding for New Orleans by 50% to cover their war. So here we are, 1000 dead, Massive infrastructure damage that will take years to replace at a cost that will send the deficit into the stratosphere. So AGAIN this belligerent, “we’re never wrong”, close minded, money driven administration has shown they could care less about each and every one of us AMERICANS who have to actually earn a living!
What you have to look at here (in my opinion) is not the individual events but the pattern of behavior we have seen from this administration. It dates all the way back to early 2001 and the now known reports that top level people had about the possibility of a terrorist attack. As with everything else that has been truly important to this country this administration chose to ignore the signals. The 911 reports have documented gross incompetence at some of the highest levels. How were so many people so “out of the loop”? Simple, George Bush was putting all his insiders into well paying powerful offices no matter whether they were qualified for the job or not!. Were people fired? Did “heads roll?” HELL NO we’re never wrong!
Fast forward to the events that lead to the invasion of Iraq. To those who we’re really paying attention it was 100% evident that 99% of the “case to invade” was 100% bullshit. I remember reading on the BBC website during this time that it had been proven without a doubt that the documents stating Saddam was trying to buy nuclear material from Africa were the worst forgery ever attempted, yet our government used these same documents to state their case. Not enough? How about the simple fact that the Bush administration had literally no plan to handle the “occupation” of Iraq after what they thought was going to be a “quick” war. They just thought it was going to be in and out and we won!
So here we are in 2005 and the disaster we will always know as Katrina. Not only had they cut the funds and put another Bush buddy in charge of FEMA, they sat their with their thumbs up their asses in total disbelief when the hurricane hit! Now I don’t give two shits about the blame game going on right now because it’s nothing more than a “cover your ass” ploy. If Bush and his henchmen (and women) would keep their asses at work and NOT on vacation and maybe actually put some people in strategic positions who actually had a freaking clue what the hell they were doing we MIGHT not be in half the mess we are in!
But they won’t. Plain and simple they don’t care and they have no idea what its like to live in the real world. They are the sons and daughters of the “inner society” whose thirst for money and power supercedes any human emotion they might have. Yeah, sure Bush got up in front of the TV and said he took responsibility but again its nothing more than spin. His communication people told him if he didn’t it was over. But you could tell it was bullshit just from the expression on his face when he said it. The agony he was experiencing from having to say “We screwed up” was so evident it was scary! Just in his actions this last year I am now 100% convinced his father was pulling all the strings during both elections because this man is a simpleton, a buffoon living on other’s dimes and worst of all, he is becoming a plague on the this country, one we may never be able to repair!
So what’s it going to take to get YOU mad and involved? $4 or $5 a gallon gas? Heating bills this winter that are higher than your rent or mortgage, eating “mac and cheese” 3 times a week because food is so expensive? What exactly will it take before you and all of the rest of the American people to stand up and say “God Dammit ENOUGH!”
