ACLU Alert, tell Bush and Mukasey To Stop Subverting the Constitution
July 28th, 2008Well here we go again kids, last Monday Attorney General, Michael Mukasey called in congress further defile the constitution. To quote from the article:
Mukasey is demanding that Congress issue a new declaration of war that would make the entire globe — including the United States itself — a “battlefield” where the president decides who will be locked up forever.
Its not bad enough habeas corpus has damn near been gutted but if the US itself is now considered part of the declaration of war that means anyone even making an idle threat or talking about why this government should be thrown out could very well be declared an enemy combatant and tossing in jail forever.
Its time to tell these idiots in congress enough is enough, either they stop these constitutional threatening bills or we will have to vote every damn one of them out and start over!
Please pass this on to as many friends as you can and ask them to call or write their congressmen and senators!
I have authored this letter which anyone can use if they do not have the time to write one, please feel free to use it in any way you see fit.
Dear Sir,
I am writing about what I consider to be an outright effort by the current administration to subvert the very core of our country, namely the US Constitution.
I have recently become aware of the recommendations of Attorney General, Michael Mukasey to the congress that put our very country in jeopardy of becoming what can only be called a police state.
These recommendations as I understand them are:
1. Demanding that Congress issue a new declaration of war that would make the entire globe — including the United States itself - a “battlefield” where the president decides who will be locked up forever.
2. Permanently remove the absolute right of habeas corpus for US citizens
3. Cover up the Bush administration’s systemic torture and abuse of detainees. Judges would not be allowed to see evidence of torture and abuse and would instead simply have to trust that a president is holding the right people as “enemy combatants.”
Over the past 7 years the rights and freedoms of American citizens have become the target of unmeasurable injustices. The rights that our forefathers thought were so important they called them “inalienable” have now been called “privileges” only to be given to those that the government sees fit. These rights have the blood of millions of American patriots attached to their words. Our brothers, sisters, fathers and grandfathers gladly gave up their lives to “protect and defend” those rights from “all enemies foreign and domestic” yet now our own government, those who are also sworn to defend these rights, are making every effort to remove that which has been the cornerstone of our great country a distant memory.
I, like so many others in America today, have sat in horror watching the principles and ideals I was raised to believe could never be taken away from me obliterated from my American dream. I can no longer sit back and watch while an elected congress allows these rights to be ripped from the pages of our history. I must respectfully demand congress take action to stop this and any other such plan or recommendation from the Bush administration. This administration has caused enough pain, suffering and damage to the country I love, the country I would gladly give my life to defend.
I must sir, demand this as a citizen that has elected you to protect these rights not just for myself and my family but for all Americans that have come before me and will come long after I have died.
I would ask you to take the time to read the great words of Jefferson, Franklin, Adams and the other founding fathers each and every time one of these “recommendations” comes before you for consideration. Read and understand the vision these great men saw for this country and take a look deep within your heart and ask yourself “Is this recommendation part of the America I love and defend?”. If the answer is no then I implore you to “protect and defend” the America that lies deep in your heart by rejecting any such proposal, recommendation or legislation.
We MUST sir, return this great nation to the America that you and I know has existed in the past and can once again exist. We must make every effort to repair the damage this nation has incurred over the past seven years for if we do not I fear, like many other patriotic Americans, our nation may perish from this Earth.
Sincerely,
Of course you will have to change the ’sir’ anywhere you might have a female representative. I personally feel it gives the letter more power when you direct comments directly at them.
So please take the time to print and send or email this and then take a few moments to pass it along to anyone you know that truly cares about our country.
